DIY Happy Lovebug Valentines for Kids

Table scattered with craft supplies and three homemade valentine's cards fashioned as bugs with candy as the main component

Take Valentine's Day as an opportunity to do a fun craft with your kids. They'll likely be making a valentine for everyone in class, so you want to make it unique, but also keep it from getting too elaborate.

Use common craft cupboard items to turn a flat lollipop into an adorable little critter.

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardstock
  • Flat lollipops
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut a sheet of cardstock in half. Then fold those into halves to make a sturdy base for your valentines.
  2. Tape a flat lollipop either on the front or inside of the card as a surprise. If you tape it inside, cut a little circle in the cover so the lollipop (which will be the lovebug's smiling face) can peek out.
  3. Decorate the critters. They can all be different-butterflies, dragonflies, bumblebees, caterpillars and made-up creatures. Have fun with it! Kids can draw an outline first if needed.
  4. To make wings, simply draw with glue and shake glitter on top. Curled pipe cleaners make great antennas, too. Let your child's creativity shine while they design cheerful little notes for their school friends.
